NIPC to assist women entrepreneurs with funding

The Executive Secretary, NIPC, Mrs. Uju Baba, disclosed this while speaking during an investment forum for women entrepreneurs.
She said the forum was part of the new measures taken by the commission to take the country into a future beyond oil.
The features of this new strategy, according to her, will focus on investment climate, financial value chain, sectoral and geographical prioritisation, regulatory support and investor aftercare.
Others are market intelligence, national branding and image and investor engagement platform.
She said,
“Our focus on women is in recognition of the role of women investors in providing the required linkages through their small businesses and to highlight their potentials to expand given adequate attention and support.
“We hope that interactions like these with stakeholders will engender networking with critical support institutions such as financiers, facilitators, regulators and enablers as well as investment partners.”
She said there was need to recognise the role women were playing in the economic transformation of the county despite the challenges, adding that the commission would do all within its power to support them.
She said, “Globally, the number of women starting their own businesses is rising quickly as countries everywhere are realizing the untapped growth potentials of female entrepreneurs.
“Sadly however, the needs of female entrepreneurs are often overlooked by policy makers. This scenario has to change.”
She said in line with the drive of the current administration to diversify the economy, the commission was promoting economic linkages and technology transfer between major projects to boost employment.
